Act I / Series

Act I materials for the first trilogy.

A 12–15 week pathway across the first three books, with a 5–7 week Book One version for schools starting with Into the Loomwell.

Essential question

When does care become control?

Book One asks what the system is hiding. Book Two asks what it is taking. Book Three asks what happens when it gives you exactly what you want. Across Act I, students develop vocabulary for algorithmic curation, institutional trust, consent, and cultural preservation.

Week-by-week structure

Weeks 1–5Into the Loomwell: orientation, pattern recognition, fracture, descent, the Lantern, and return.
Weeks 6–10Where the Light Waits: the underground becomes home, smoothing reaches people, and the system watches.
Weeks 11–15The Year of Doors: academies, separation, invitation, choice, return, and synthesis.

If your school has only Book One, the first five weeks work as a standalone 5–7 week unit. A lighter 8–10 week version can teach Book One in full and use excerpts or discussion prompts from Books Two and Three to complete the Act I arc.

Essay bank and final assessment

The full plan includes an 18-prompt essay bank, formative checks, three writing assignments, and final assessment options: a comparative essay or a creative-analytical artifact paired with seminar discussion.

Class-set signal

If you are reading a 15-week plan, you are probably planning a class set.

The free unit plan exists to make adoption easier. The book is the classroom product.
